A New Look at the Word....Booty

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving. Beware lest anyone CHEAT you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” (Colossians 2:6-10)

This is sobering:

The word "cheat" means "to be led away as booty" having been conquered.

Now, before the crass world we live in started using the word "booty" to refer to the body parts of women that some males were degrading and considering them to be valuable because what they could use them for....the word "booty" had a different meaning.

It referred to the things a pirate or a victorious fighter would steal from someone and use for his own.

Really, I suppose....the current use of the word "booty" is apt then...because it often refers to people using the body parts of others as captured things.

But back in Colossians 2:8 the term refers to Christians being taken by the devil as he uses deception to take them captive...considering them to be spoils of war.

What is the deception in this passage?

The "traditions of men" (we always have done it that way here) and "the basic principles of the world" (the systems of the earth that are all orchestrated by satan.

May we, as THE Church, repent, cast down these things and COME BACK to our Father's original intentions for His children.

May He have mercy on us for our foolishness, cluelessness and disobedience.

May we RECEIVE His forgiveness.

He WILL forgive us. That's Who He is.
