No Grey Areas
"Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but such as keep the law contend with them." (Proverb 28:4)
Those who do not know God in the least LOVE what they call “grey areas”. They find absolutes uncomfortable when it comes to God and His ways.
They do not like it when God says “Do this” or “Don’t do this” or when He (as He so often does) labels things as sin or “abomination” (spiritually repulsive.)
These do not want to live in a “black and white” world that functions on spiritual absolutes preferring, instead man-made so-called “grey areas” in which things God says are evil might just be okay if they can be explained away or somehow justified.
There is a fundamental error in this approach: God made the world and HE made it to be one founded on spiritual absolutes.
“And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.” (Genesis 1:4)
In Genesis chapter 1 God “sees things” and considers them to be good six times. GOD decides what is good and what is bad.
When God says that we should behave a certain way that way is good (beneficial). Therefore, when He has said to do something, to not do that thing or to do the OPPOSITE of that thing is bad (harmful).
There truly is NO “grey area” in this.
I’ve come to recognize that “grey areas” are really one thing: “wiggle room” in which one can try to justify sin. However we frame what we do….no matter how we justify it…sin is sin and it is called “sin” by God because it is BAD and, therefore, harmful to us and/or others.
In today’s Proverb we see one of God’s MANY typical black and white statements:
"Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but such as keep the law contend with them." (Proverb 28:4)
Let’s look at this verse translating what the words mean:
"Those who abandon God’s precepts foolishly applaud the morally wrong” (Proverb 28:4a)
As you read this, envision those who applaud and praise the abortion industry that slaughters babies for millions of dollars per day even though GOD says, “Thou shalt not kill (murder the innocent)”.
As you read it think about people who stand on the sidelines and joyously celebrate the Pride (God hates pride) parades march by proudly celebrating identities, lifestyles. and practices that GOD calls spiritually repulsive.
According to this Proverb these people have forsaken God’s law – even if they claim to be Christians.
“but those who value and carefully honor and keep God’s precepts grate on them and strive with them." (Proverb 28:4b)
Have you noticed that in two ways there is no “grey area” in this Proverb?
First, there are only two kinds of people: those forsake God’s law and those who keep God’s law.
Second, there are only two responses among these: those who praise the wicked and those who contend with the wicked.
Why would God tell us these things?
He does this so that we can 1) know the truth that there is only “right” and “wrong” – i.e., no “grey areas” and 2) so that we can decide which way we will live.
May we be wise and honor God by living the ways HE commands us to live, harvesting the benefit from our Designer’s loving direction.
May we love the wicked enough to contend with them and to do so only using words given to us by our Father in heaven.
May both lost and saved come to understand that both God and the fallen archangel satan KNOW there are ONLY spiritual absolutes.
The former (God) speaks to us for our health.
The latter (satan) speaks to us to destroy us.
Let's be wise.
