Oh Give Thanks

Every single day God does something for us…that enhances, blesses….even maintains our very lives.

We usually don’t even seem to notice.

One day I asked a young man what God had done for him that day and he looked at me with a sneer and said, “Nuthin.” I smiled back at him.

After some uncomfortable minutes of silence he looked up from his apparently super interesting fingers and blorped out, “What?!?!?”

I said, “Didja remember to ask Jesus to make sure you had oxygen to breathe today? Didja ask Him for gravity….and sunshine?”

The Apostle Paul said this about Jesus:

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:15-17)

The writer of the letter to the Hebrews said the same thing:

“…He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.” (Hebrews 1:3a)

1 Peter 3:4-7 says that because Jesus chooses to do so, all things on the earth continue to remain as they have since He created them.

So, what has Jesus done for us today? He has provided gravity and air and sunshine.

I don’t know about you, but I am a HUGE fan of breathing, of being able to stick to the earth and not go floating out into space and of being able to see where I am going thanks to the sun’s existence.

We have a tendency to interpret God’s blessings only in terms of big, flashy things that He sometimes chooses to do for our benefit.

The truth is that EVERYTHING He does is a blessing.

Everything.

EV-ER-Y-THING.

Join me in spending some time today pondering all the wondrous things He does for us that we never really think about or consider.

Then, let’s tell someone about it.

The best evangelism in existence has to do with Christians casually telling a world taught that God doesn’t exist or convinced that He doesn’t matter that He IS active, He IS love and He IS engaged with His children….Christians.

Lost and dying people NEED to hear this from their family members, neighbors, co-workers and friends.

So, let’s give thanks to Him….and brag on Him this day.

Make them jealous for what we have in Jesus.

“Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works!” (1 Chronicles 16:8-9)

And let’s sing to Him and tell HIM what we notice He has been up to in our lives.
