Be The Mirror
If You Are The Mirror….Be The Mirror
The Lord once showed me that in terms of a family to which I was ministering, He considered me to be a mirror:
"For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known." (1 Corinthians 13:12)
Being in this place in a person’s life is a humbling privilege from the Lord. It does not come without a cost, though.
As the toxic systems in the family system became visible in the mirror (no matter how graciously I said what I saw) they had a decision to make: either 1) evaluate what was being made known and present themselves to God for Him to bring into order or 2) remove the mirror.
They chose to remove the mirror.
This, sadly, is the road most traveled in situations like this. I've seen it happen FAR too many times in my many years of ministry. It’s MUCH easier, in the short term at least, to do nothing. Often, though, the dysfunction even increases dramatically.
I've seen it kill counseling centers, churches, jobs, businesses, marriages and families. (Our enemy, satan is pleased with that decision.)
Not everyone is "deputized" by God to be a mirror in someone else's life, but if He has done that for you, be the mirror.
When being the mirror for God causes people to reject you, take heart. We’re in great company. Jesus experienced it all the time.
Sometimes they say unkind things about the mirror.
Be the mirror anyway.
Sometimes they break the mirror.
Be the mirror anyway. God can put you back together if that would be best.
Keep being willing to be the mirror. It’s worth the disappointment, sadness and pain of watching people reject God in that way because if just one person repents.....the Kingdom of God advances.
So, keep being the mirror.
