The House of God
What the Bible says about "God's house" after the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed:
"However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says: 'HEAVEN IS MY THRONE, AND EARTH IS MY FOOTSTOOL. WHAT HOUSE WILL YOU BUILD FOR ME? SAYS THE LORD, OR WHAT IS THE PLACE OF MY REST? HAS MY HAND NOT MADE ALL THESE THINGS?' " (Acts 7:48-50)
We must never forget this:
"Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain." (Psalm 127:1)
Only God builds His house (His Church); people do not.
We either participate with and cooperate with Him in that....or we work against God.
Paul (1 Timothy 3:16) speaks of how we should conduct ourselves in the house of God and then clarifies that by saying this: "which is the church of the living God." (The church = born again people.)
Then Peter clarifies this by saying that Christians (not a dedicated building) are the "house of God":
"Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, ARE BEING BUILT UP A SPIRITUAL HOUSE, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 2:4-5)
The House of God might meet in a building that is usually closed 160 out of 168 hours a week but that building is not God’s house.
We Christians ARE the house of God.
Let's conduct ourselves accordingly 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
