Used To Be Doesn't Matter

I was thinking today about a time in my life more than 30 years ago. Things weren’t going well back then and there was a reason for that: I was living sinfully and my life was almost completely out of God’s order. In fact, I wasn’t a Christian yet and at the time God’s order didn’t matter to me at all. My life was a mess. I had lost a lot and there were people attacking me and doing their best to make me miserable. I had known for a long time that my life was a mess because of me. MY sin did that. At the time, though, I didn’t realize the sin part then and I didn't know most of it was my own fault. I just knew that I was a wreck and that I spent most of my time thinking about how things wou

The Incredible Value of Taking Responsibility

“So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. God says this to Christians about fear: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) In an attempt to use words and the opinions of people to control others some out there are labelling other people as “homophobic”, “Islamophobic”, etc. They use these names to label people who have opinions about homosexuality or radical and murderous forms of Islam that do not celebrate either. This is a form of subtle and often not so subtle propaganda. Their goal is to use emotions and

Spiritual Priorities

"Beware of any work for God that causes or allows you to avoid concentrating on Him. A great number of Christian workers worship their work. The only concern of Christian workers should be their concentration on God." (Oswald Chambers) I think what I appreciate most about this quote from this seasoned and legendary Christian writer is that he understands the distinction between a person's concentration (loving focus) on God and doing things for God. Working to do things that obviously please God is one of many ways to show our love for Him. However, if that is all we do for Him - to the neglect of our true relationship with Him and those He puts closest to us in our lives - we aren't really
